Shops and stores at Shanghai’s airports

Retailing at Shanghai’s airports is extensive, with the largest concentration of international and duty-free brands in the airside areas of Pudong.

Duty free

Duty-free stores operate in the international departure, arrival and transfer zones at Pudong, and in the airside areas at Hongqiao. Ranges typically include fragrance, cosmetics, spirits, tobacco, confectionery and leather goods. Airside duty-free pricing is generally below city retail, but the selection outside the secure area is more limited.

General retail

  • International brands — fashion, accessories, watches and jewellery.
  • Chinese specialty stores — tea, silk, ceramics, lacquerware and other recognisable Chinese gift products.
  • Electronics and travel tech — chargers, cables, headphones and power banks, which are genuinely useful given the long transfer walks.
  • Newsstands — international newspapers and magazines, books, snacks and confectionery.
  • Duty-free and convenience stores — for essentials and last-minute purchases.

By location

  • Pudong Terminal 2, Level 4 — the main public retail level.
  • Pudong airside — duty-free and international brands in the departure and satellite concourses.
  • Hongqiao Terminal 2 — a broad mix of domestic and international brands on the public floors, plus a compact airside selection.
  • Hongqiao Terminal 1 — smaller-format shops near the check-in islands.

Tips

  • Duty-free purchases made airside are sealed in a tamper-evident bag and cannot be opened until you arrive at your final destination.
  • Refund counters for international purchases are located at the departure hall; the process can take 30–60 minutes, so allow time before your flight [TO VERIFY].
  • Prices in the airside areas of Pudong are competitive with downtown duty-free stores, but the range is far wider.
