Hongqiao (SHA) Arrivals

Arrivals at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA)

Hongqiao International Airport is the western, city-side airport. It sits in Changning District, roughly 800 metres east of Hongqiao Railway Station, and is the most convenient airport in Shanghai for travellers arriving on domestic services or arriving from Europe by high-speed rail.

Where arrivals happen

  • Terminal 1 (T1) — handles international, Hong Kong / Macao / Taiwan and some domestic flights. It lies about 2 km east of Terminal 2, across the airfield.
  • Terminal 2 (T2) — the main domestic terminal. It is four times the size of Terminal 1 and houses almost 80% of the airport’s domestic airlines.

Arrival procedure

  1. Disembarkation — follow Arrivals signage to your terminal.
  2. Immigration — foreign nationals pass through Chinese entry control. Eligible passport holders have been able to transit Hongqiao without a visa since 1 January 2013.
  3. Baggage claim — on the lower floors of your terminal.
  4. Customs — declare goods over the allowance.
  5. Transfer — Terminal 2 connects directly to the Hongqiao transport hub, including Hongqiao Railway Station.

Getting into the city from SHA

  • Metro Line 2 — direct to People’s Square, East Nanjing Road, Lujiazui and Pudong International Airport.
  • Metro Line 10 — serves both Hongqiao Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, running every 10 minutes to East Nanjing Road in about 4 minutes for 3 RMB.
  • Hongqiao Railway Station — adjacent to Terminal 2, served by the Beijing–Shanghai, Shanghai–Hangzhou and Shanghai–Nanjing intercity high-speed lines.
  • Airport buses and taxis — extensive coach network plus metered taxis at each terminal.

Hongqiao received the Skytrax 5-Star Airport Rating in 2025 for facilities, terminal comfort and cleanliness, shopping, food and beverage, and staff service.
