A detailed walk-through of the passenger facilities available across Shanghai’s four terminals, with practical detail on what to expect at each stage of your journey.

Departure facilities

• Check-in — 204 staffed counters in Pudong Terminal 1, plus self-service check-in, which was first introduced in China at Hongqiao Terminal 1 in 2018.
• Security screening — X-ray screening of carry-on baggage and body screening at every checkpoint.
• Waiting halls — airside seating, charging points and information screens throughout the terminals and satellite concourses.
• Boarding gates — boarding closes 10 minutes before scheduled departure.

Arrival facilities

• Immigration — Chinese entry control in every international arrival hall.
• Baggage reclaim — 13 luggage conveying belts in Pudong Terminal 1, with belts and carousels in the other terminals.
• Customs — red and green channels for declaration and inspection.
• Meet and greet areas — designated waiting zones in the arrivals halls.

On-site amenities

• Restaurants, food courts and coffee shops on every level in Terminal 2 of both airports.
• Duty-free stores in the international departure and arrival zones, plus general retail and newsagent kiosks throughout.
• ATM, bank branches, currency exchange, insurance desks and post offices.
• Prayer rooms, quiet rooms, nursing rooms, disabled facilities and accessible toilets.
• Free Wi-Fi, device-charging stations, and business lounges on a paid or airline-included basis.

Overnight and long-layover options

The Shanghai Airport Hotel is located inside Pudong Terminal 2 and can be reached without exiting security, which makes it practical for transit passengers. Rooms start at roughly 400–700 CNY per night, with hourly rates available. Other options include the Ramada by Wyndham Shanghai Pudong Airport next to Terminal 2, connected by walkway, and the Shanghai Airport Mercure Hotel, a 10-minute shuttle from the terminals.
