Taxis at Shanghai’s airports
Taxis are metered and widely used at both airports. They are the fastest option for door-to-door travel at night or with heavy luggage, and the most expensive during the day.

Where to find them
- Pudong — the main taxi rank is directly outside the arrivals hall of each terminal, with a separate pickup area for pre-booked and car-hire vehicles.
- Hongqiao — metered taxis queue at the forecourt of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The Line 1 airport coach also departs from the Hongqiao Hub East Transport Center.

Practical tips
- All taxis are metered. Keep the receipt and check the meter at the end of the trip.
- Journeys from Pudong to central Shanghai are subject to tolls on the elevated expressway, which are added to the meter [TO VERIFY].
- Peak hours around 07:00–09:00 and 16:30–19:00 can extend journey times significantly, particularly on the Pudong run.
- Ride-hailing services such as Didi are widely used in Shanghai and can be ordered from the terminal.
- Shorter distances such as Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 at Hongqiao are usually best made with the shuttle bus rather than a taxi.
